Week 5 Blog Assignment

The blog focus for this week was to investigate games, simulations, and virtual environments. I have chosen http://www.lumosity.com and http://braingames1.aarp.org as the websites that will enhance adult learning.

The first website, Lumosity, has free games and the opportunity to subscribe monthly, yearly, or lifetime. I subscribed for one month for $11.95. I think this is an excellent investment toward honoring my brain skills and giving potential online adult students valuable brain activities. Lumosity provides, in addition to free games, a full training program with a subscription. The games are designed by scientists that challenge a variety of skills. Also, adult online learners have available 25+ mobile Lumosity games for Android, iPad, and iPhone. I selected this website for the challenging games and its availability for mobile devices. In the adult online learning environment, Lumosity would be used as an ice-breaker and team activity.

The second, AARP, provides free brain challenging games for adults. I never associated AARP with online gaming, and discovering this site provided me additional opportunities to test my brain abilities. The games are designed to promote memory attention and visual-spatial. Within the adult online learning environment, I would assign games weekly, and the games would be utilized as ice-breakers. I highly suggest investigating these websites.

Educational Technologies

Week 4
Assignment 1: Educational Technologies Blog

The focus of this week’s blog is mobile learning technologies and how adult learning will be enhanced through the use of mobile phones, smartphones, iPods, iPads, tablets, etc.

The course text stated that “some K-12 schools have decided to embrace mobile devices into the classroom for instruction” (Bonk, 2009, p. 303). Mobile devices and learning apps in the learning environment are slowly breaking down the walls of the traditional classroom. Within my professional environment, usage of computers is minimal. Every week my technology knowledge expands. Researching this week’s assignment, I located the following technology although not necessarily “new” has the potential to transform how online adult learners obtain information.

File Sharing

One app every educator and student should have on any device is DropBox [link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dropbox/id327630330?mt=8], which is a free file hosting service. This storage app permits an individual to store data in the “cloud,” providing the ability to access the files from anywhere. The files may be moved from a computer to the device or vice versa. I selected this technology in that I envisioned how useful this app would be for the online learner and educator. Within my potential online class, I could create folders that the online learners could access at any time from their smartphone, tablet, or computer.

The second URL: https://www.coursera.org/specializations/emerging-technologies This website offered technology courses that commence November 28, 2016, to January 9, 2016. The title of the course: Emerging Technologies from smartphones to IoT to Big Data specialization. The lectures focus on the specifications, hardware modules, and OS (Operation System), iOS and Android that enable smartphones to perform various feathers and functionalities. The lecture covers the specifications of the Samsun Galaxy 56 Edge, LGG4, and the iPhone 6 Plus. Discovering this website, I experienced excitement. In addition to smartphone knowledge, cloud computing, and Internet of Things (IoT) & Augmented Reality (AR), emerging technologies are discussed. IoT is a new emerging technology domain which will be used to connect all objects to the internet for remote sensing and control. I have a responsibility to be informed about various aspects of technology. Within the online classroom, I could utilize Drop Box to provides lecture notes from the courses [I intend to sign up for a course] to the online learner. Additionally, I would provide online learners the website and encourage them to participate.

In conclusion, as a potential online educator, the information provided tine blog is contributing to my effectiveness and expertise of various technologies.

Week 3 Blog Assignment

Week 3 Assignment 1

The first social networking technology I selected is Duolingo, http://www.fluentin3months.com/duolingo. Duolingo is a free language-learning app that offers 11 completed language courses for English speakers. For example, as an English speaker, you can learn Spanish with over 40 million other learners, Italian with 10 million learners, or even Irish, with just over 1 million learners. To use Duolingo, you set up a profile, choose your target language, set your weekly goals, and you are ready to learn a new language.

I selected this technology in that it is an excellent example of personalized learning. The course text mentioned learning a new language online using “Kan Talk, Spanish Pod, or LiveMocha. Duolingo appears to be more user-friendly.

Two examples of how Duolingo will be incorporated into my professional practice.

Within the online learning community, I may sue Duolingo as an icebreaker. The second utilization of Duolingo is collaborating with 2 to 3 other online instructors to learn the same language and post our experiences on a blog.

Edmodo is a free online networking application for teachers and students. It is a safe and controlled environment appropriate for schools. Unlike Facebook, Edmodo explicitly deals with school and teacher concerns about social networking for students. I selected Edmodo in that I can envision sharing this information with local teachers. Additionally, as an online instructor, I may be able to implement this safe and controlled technology within my online classroom. Communication between students can not be anonymous or private, which is a positive not found on Facebook.

Week 2 Blog Assignment

Week 2 Assignment

Researching the multimedia websites, I decided to post the URL http://www.ven.org/general_learner/multimedia_resources.html Utah Education Network. My reason to select this website is the multimedia resources for educators and students provides access to websites with numerous resources educators can use in multimedia presentations. Within my present professional practice, following guidelines for copyright and usage, I will utilize presentations created with Microsoft PowerPoint. Another example of how I may incorporate technology from the multimedia website is to explore Think Port: Think Classroom, Online Clips. I intend to share the information with adult male correctional offenders.

I selected this website to gather further information about gamification. The website stated that gamification as one of the top 10 technology trends for 2012. Within the correctional classroom, most offenders think of online gaming strictly as entertainment. I plan to transform online concepts into the correctional classroom. I will share my outcome through this blog. Additionally, I will provide the adult offenders with online learning information that may promote someone to enroll in online classes and encourage their children.
